As a church we support the Gateway project which was started in 2013 by the Churches in Runwell and Wickford. The project aims to provide support to people and families who are finding life hard for a number of reasons. We provide, along with other churches a group of volunteers on a rota who offer advice and give out food, refreshments and offer the chance for an informal chat. This all happens at the local Salvation hall every Thursday morning between 10am-12 pm and we collect food, donations and other provision to support this on a regular basis within our own church.
The Gateway is open every Thursday between 10 am and noon, at the Salvation Army building in Jersey Gardens. It is primarily a food bank, offering dried and tinned goods, and also toiletries, for those who are struggling, for whatever reason, to meet the financial demands of daily life. As well as food parcels, the volunteers who staff it will offer a friendly welcome, a listening ear, and, of course, a cup of tea.
The food bank is stocked by contributions from the churches, from local schools and other organisations. The items offered are quite basic, baked beans, tinned tomatoes, tinned vegetables, tinned meat , tinned fish, soup, tea ,coffee , breakfast cereals ,pasta, rice, jam and long life milk
Please think about adding an item or two to your weekly shopping; each of our three churches has a collection box for your contributions.
